Whilst a top 4 position might be out of the reach for Arsenal, they remain a force to be reckoned with in the FA Cup. This weekend saw them beat Manchester City in the semi-finals of England’s premier domestic knockout tournament in order to book a mouth-watering finals clash against rivals Chelsea.
One of the other side’s that Arsenal had to dispatch en route to their third FA Cup final in four years was Sutton United, who play in the 5th division of English football. Such games, whilst predictably one sided, usually bring in decent revenue for smaller clubs, meaning they look forward to them regardless of what the result might be.
Amazingly, they received a nice little token of appreciation from none other than Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis in the form of a handwritten letter, personally thanking them for hosting Arsenal.
Gazidis is often lambasted one of the reasons for the club’s current state, yet even jaded fans will be able to appreciate this gesture.
