Spanish media claims Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has promised a whopping £70m transfer budget to Rafa Benitez this summer

It has been a great turnaround year for Newcastle United. The club that faced relegation just last season has secured a return back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Monday’s 4-1 win over Preston marked the Magpies’ promotion bid coming to a successful end, and manager Rafa Benitez, undoubtedly, deserves a large chunk of credit for the same.

The Spaniard had committed his future with the club even before this season began and fans would be hoping to see many more successful seasons under him.

Upcoming challenges will need to be faced with optimum levels of preparedness, and if Rafa’s comments with the Spanish media are to be believed, the Magpies are going to see major reinforcements coming in soon.

News outlet AS has reported that the manager claims Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is ready to spend up to €82 million (£70m), and recent reports suggest that top players like Daniel Sturridge are already on the club’s shopping list.

  1. Ochenta milion Euros, no way that’s ever gonna happen unless Ashley has had a revelation, that in football like every other business you have to venture a few bob in order to make a few bob, I mean how many times has he watched his dumb assed hirelings screw things up before he catches on, that we now have one of the best managers in the business, better to let him manage, without putting his two cents in or listening to Carr.
