After a 3-0 loss at home, you wouldn’t expect too many Everton players or supporters to be in an upbeat mood. The Toffees have been on fine form at Goodison Park this season, so the loss against Chelsea was particularly hard to take. However, Golden Boot front runner Romelu Lukaku was all smiles after the game despite the result – and it was not in circumstances that would comfort the fans at all.
Footage emerged of Lukaku meeting Chelsea’s technical director Michael Emenalo in the tunnel in the post-match in a meeting that featured grinning faces, some warm gestures and even an embrace.
The highly rated Belgian has never had a higher stock in the transfer market and the spectre of his former club swooping in for him looms large in the coming months.
The Premier League’s top scorer however failed to impress in front of his prospective new manager Antonio Conte, but repeatedly this has not deterred the London club from attempting to land their man.
Lukaku is seemingly sure to leave the cosy Merseyside club in the summer – it remains to be seen if his move involves a palette swap to a different blue jersey eventually.
