In what was one of the most high-profile transfer windows for Manchester United in recent years, Eric Bailly made the rather surprise distinction of being United’s first transfer acquisition in the Mourinho era.
And while the likes of Ibrahimovic and Pogba have expectedly hogged the headlines, the 23 year old defender has also held his own with a very impressive debut season so far in the famous red shirt.
The assured no-nonsense defending of the Ivorian has invariably drawn comparisons to legendary United defender Nemanja Vidic from many quarters. And the comparisons could not have more apt following United’s 1-0 win over Celta Vigo in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final.
Bailly remained a rock in the Man United defence helping his side come away a very crucial win heading into the second leg scheduled to take place next week. In one moment of the match, the defender was seen heading head first to block a shot from Celta.
Bailly’s commitment to preserving United’s clean sheet earned the praise of the entire Manchester United faithful who lauded the defender for his fearlessness and brutality. As expected, it also brought about endless comparisons with Vidic.
