With just thirteen Premier League appearances, 2016-17 might not have been a very eventful season for West Ham’s Arthur Masuaku.
The defender, who was roped in by the Hammers from Olympiakos for a four-year deal that began last year, largely spent the previous season playing second fiddle to the team’s regular defensive line-up.
Given his lack of playing time, manager Slaven Bilic granted Masuaku a chance to prove his worth during West Ham’s pre-season friendly against Manchester City in Iceland last week.
The 23-year old started for his team and impressed with his display. One instance that portrayed Masuaku’s skills in the opponents’ half was when he casually brushed aside new City signing Kyle Walker during a counter-attack.
Media reports had previously suggested the Frenchman’s exit from West Ham due to his inability to fit in, but efforts like these could surely see him completing his contract with the club.
