Chelsea suffered a dismal start to their title defence after their season opener was marred by a shocking 2-3 loss at the hands of Burnley FC.
The Blues could do nothing to prevent Sam Vokes from scoring twice on either side of Stephen Ward’s goal. Although substitute Alvaro Morata and David Luiz did manage to score for Chelsea, it was simply too little and too late.
And that wasn’t even the worst part of the game for Antonio Conte’s men. Chelsea had to lose captain Gary Cahill and even Cesc Fabregas to red cards for horrific challenges that reduced their team to nine men.
Anger towards the referee was evident following these unfortunate turn of events, and it was expressed rather acrimoniously by Michy Batshuayi, who very sarcastically shook the referee’s hand while being taken off the field for Morata’s second half entry.
