Although Slaven Bilic did manage to find some good signings like Javier Hernandez this summer, West Ham’s larger narrative was dominated by the failure to land much-awaited players that the fans were hoping to see at the club.
For example, not only did Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho’s transfer bid to West Ham reportedly fail at the last moment, it also caused embarrassment when Lisbon officials denied receiving any proposal from the Hammers.
All this internal mess, coupled with West Ham’s dismal start to the season placing them dead last on the table, has naturally angered fans. And the club’s media team has only made matters worse.
West Ham’s website displayed an advertisement promoting an e-payments company, which actually ended up softly mocking the club’s transfer business efforts.
