Defensive frailties once again got the better of Liverpool in the Champions League as they could only manage a 2-2 draw with Sevilla despite dominating large periods of the match at Anfield.
Much of the blame was pointed towards centre-back Dejan Lovren who had another horror showing in the middle of the defense. Lovren was in a large way responsible for both of Sevilla’s goal with his hesitation allowing both Wissam Ben Yedder and Joaquin Correa to score for Sevilla. To further compound the defensive misery, Liverpool’s Joe Gomez was sent off in injury time.
And if things weren’t bad enough on the pitch, Gomez also got embroiled in a controversy off the pitch when he appeared to like a comment from a fan criticizing his team-mate Dejan Lovren. While it is granted that Lovren’s performance deserved the stick from the fans, the fact that his own team-mate joined the fray is a sign of things that all is not well with the Reds defense.
