Spurs have built a ‘Wall’ at the back
The all-Belgian partnership of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderwiereld was perhaps the standout centre-back pairing in the league last season as Spurs finished runners-up. Yet a lack of quality backup was a worry for Mauricio Pochettino going into the 2017/18 campaign.
Perhaps with that in mind, the Argentine manager splashed out £42 million on Davinson Sanchez. The Colombian was initially signed as a backup to the Belgian duo, however his burgeoning reputation has warranted his inclusion into the first-team at Spurs.
As good as they have been on the pitch, the Sky Sports lineup graphic for the trio makes them look even more intimidating.
With Sanchez playing the deeper role, flanked by the much more experienced Alderwiereld and Vertonghen, it is the perfect mix of strength and subtlety.
