France skipper Hugo Lloris displayed his class with a brilliant save to keep Bulgaria from getting past him as the Les Bleus reaped in a solitary goal victory to assure at least a playoff spot in the UEFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Tottenham man had the supporters on the edge of their seats in the 37th minute as he could only partially parry away Nedelev’s long range effort which created an open chance for Kostadinov to head home.
The Spurs number one however, atoned for his mistake with a brilliant reflex save to his right to deny the effort. Galabinov was denied by the defence on rebound and the drama ended with Slavchev firing over the bar from the edge of the box.
That was arguably the closest Bulgaria came to scoring in a match dominated by the French, with Matuidi’s 3rd minute strike proving enough to be the difference between the two sides.
