It is highly advised for a referee to almost always remain inconspicuous in the game of football. Emphasis on the word ‘almost,’ because one small but potentially game-changing mistake, and a referee could soon become one of the most hated people in the world.

Mike Dean, the referee during Arsenal’s 2-0 win v Tottenham earlier today, would have definitely preferred to remain inconspicuous. The referee faced the wrath of Spurs fans as both the Arsenal goals looked a tad offisde.

And not just the fans, even Tottenham assistant boss Jesús Pérez waited for Dean in the tunnel at half-time to give him a piece of his mind.
