Having stayed undefeated in their first six matches under new manager Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds United were knocked out of the Carabao Cup as 10-man Preston North End condemned them to a 2-0 loss at Elland Road.
New Leeds signing, Patrick Bamford was given just his second start of the season by Bielsa in place of in-form striker Kemar Roofe, but the 24-year-old failed get on the scoresheet as the Whites were unable to recover after conceding from the penalty spot as early as the 2nd minute of the match.
Their team might have lost but Leeds fans can still find some reason to be pleased as the man keeping Bamford out of the starting XI, Roofe was spotted giving the former Middlesbrough man some words of encouragement.
The brilliant moment between the two ‘competitors’ displayed the team spirit that Bielsa has managed to instill in the dressing room and the table toppers are going to need every bit of it if they are to entertain any thoughts of getting promoted this season.
