Tottenham Hotspur will be taking on Liverpool at Wembley Stadium in what will be the clash of the weekend. The match that will kick-off this weekend’s Premier League action looks to be quite a tasty fixture, partly because this is Liverpool’s first big test of the season so far.
While the Reds have started the season really well with four wins from four, they haven’t been all that convincing in their last two games, barely managing to edge out Brighton and Leicester. This game won’t evoke great memories for the Merseysiders who got thrashed 4-1 by Spurs at Wembley last season.
While Tottenham began their season well with three wins out of three, they were taken back down to earth by Watford who beat them 2-1 a couple of weeks ago courtesy of two set-pieces. However, what will excite Spurs fans before this fixture, is that the North Londoners haven’t fielded what is arguably their best 11 in any of the games so far this season.
Due to a combination of fitness worries and tactical concerns, Pochettino has opted to start with 5 at the back in 3 of Tottenham’s four games. With Dele Alli and Hugo Lloris both ruled out of the game, it looks like Spurs fans might have to wait yet another week to see their best 11 take the field..
With Son returning from his successful Asian Games campaign and with Lamela, Winks and Wanyama now available for selection, Pochettino certainly has a selection head-ache on his hands.
However given that Rose showed glimpses of his old self with his mid-week performance for England against Switzerland, and with Dier and Dembele both fully fit, Tottenham fans will certainly be hoping Pochettino reverts back to a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 as that gives the Lilywhites their best chance of getting three points from the game.
