Roberto Firmino’s participation in Liverpool’s Champions League opener against PSG remains doubtful as he is yet to get the all clear after sustaining a horrendous eye injury during Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham.

Having scored the winning goal for his side at the start of the second half, the Brazilian had to be substituted in the 75th minute following a grisly tussle for the ball with Jan Vertonghen.

As the Spurs defender lost balance and flailed his arms wildly, his finger jammed in Firmino’s eye socket. The 26-year-old was unable to continue due to the painful blow and was spotted walking off the pitch holding a bandage to his eye.

Unsurprisingly, Liverpool fans were left unimpressed by Vertonghen’s eye poke and reacted with some pretty nasty comments on his Instagram.

The English wasn’t too good to read but umm…one gets their sentiment. Check out the nastiness:

  1. Either they are retarded (they are Scousers) or foreign, there are no other explanations for the horrendous spelling in those comments.
If Vertonghen had been looking at Firmino when his finger went in his eye there would be cause for apology but he didn’t look at him so it was unintentional… if it’s unintentional there is nothing to apologise for. Too complicated for 99.99999999999% of Scousers and Liverpool supporters to understand? Aye.
