Mohamed Elneny has seen his opportunities limited under Unai Emery after the arrival of Mattéo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira in the summer. The 26-year-old who is yet to start a Premier League game this season, was handed a rare start in the Carabao Cup last night as Arsenal took on Brentford.
The Gooners progressed to the next round after dismissing the EFL Championship side 3-1 at the Emirates, courtesy of a double strike by Danny Welbeck and a late strike by substitute Alexandre Lacazette. Elneny, was one of many players in the starting line-up who was looking to impress his manager, so as to stake his claim in Arsenal’s first choice XI, and by the looks of it, the Egyptian tried really hard to do so.
There was one moment in the first-half when the 26-year-old won the ball and nutmugged a Brentford player inside Arsenal’s penalty box. The lovely piece of skill by the Egyptian international certainly didn’t go unnoticed by Arsenal fans.

While the piece of skill showcased by Elneny was certainly commendable, Unai Emery might have not been entirely appreciative of the fact that the midfielder attempted something like that inside Arsenal’s own penalty area.
