Tottenham were at the receiving end of a Lionel Messi masterclass at Wembley as they suffered their second Champions League loss on the trot. The Argentine ran the home team ragged and played an instrumental part in both of Barcelona’s first half goals before going on to score twice in the second half.
But even in the face of Messi’s ferocious onslaught, Spurs – who had a host of first steam regulars absent due to injury – showed commendable resilience to not crumble and twice came back to reduce the deficit to one goal.
Fans of the North London club would have admired their team’s tenacity as they harried the Spanish giants in the second half before the 31-year-old magician popped up with a 90th minute strike, condemning them to a 4-2 defeat.
A moment which fans loved and which perfectly defined Spurs’ immense fighting spirit was Harry Winks’ brilliant sliding tackle against Messi after tracking back from the opposition half.
The 22-year-old, who is coming back from a long injury layoff, sparkled as the game progressed and managed to impress fans with his lively performance.
The moment will forever live in the memories of the fans and the player alike. Check out Winks’ sliding tackle to win back possession from one of the all time greats of the game:
