While Celtic failed to qualify for the Champions League and are currently competing in the continent’s second tier, their fans were given a reason to cheer as former Arsenal man Paul Merson joined a long list of footballers to wax lyrical over the atmosphere at Celtic Park.
The Sky Sports pundit called the Hoops’ iconic ground at the East End of Glasgow as the best venue for midweek European nights along with Liverpool’s fortress Anfield while predicting the result of the latter’s upcoming Champions League encounter against Red Star Belgrade.
Fans of both the clubs are famous for their vocal support during matches, waving flags and singing their shared anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone.
The Bhoys can be proud of the fact that the 60,000-seater Parkhead’s atmosphere is considered better than some other historic grounds that see comparatively more Champions League action than them.
