Arsenal just about edged out Sporting in their Europa League encounter yesterday to extend their winning streak to 11 in a row.
While it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Gunners at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, they got all three points in the bag after Danny Welbeck capitalized on an defensive error by the home team in the 77th minute.
The Portuguese outfit matched Emery’s side for most of the match and looked pretty intense as they went in search of an equalizer late on.
But Sporting defender Sebastian Coates took things a bit too far when he head-butted Stephan Lichtsteiner and sparked some unnecessary drama in the dying stages of the match.
Furious at the audacious attack on his compatriot, Granit Xhaka proceeded to confront Coates and the two could only be separated after players from both sides came rushing to the scene.
Lucas Torreira was one of the first to respond as he desperately tried to prevent his international and club teammate’s from taking things out of hand.

The Uruguayan defender was perhaps trying a bit too hard to redeem himself after his blunder led to Welbeck’s goal but should consider himself pretty lucky not to have been sent off for what seemed like a blatant assault on Lichtsteiner.
