Arsenal’s unbeaten run under manager Unai Emery continued after a nervy 2-1 win over Blackpool propelled them into the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup where they’ll meet North London rivals Tottenham.
Emery, who replaced Arsene Wenger as Gunners’ manager in the summer, was an animated figure on the touchline as his side struggled to find a way past their League One visitors.
But while the Spanish shouted instructions whenever his team tried to build an attack, it became noticeable that those duties were shifted to his long time assistant Juan Carlos Carcedo when the players were in their own half trying to deal with defensive set pieces.
Interesting tactics these by the 46-year-old, whose methods certainly seem to be working wonders for the club this season.
Check out a clip that shows Emery switching roles with his trusted assistant as Arsenal defended a free-kick and then taking charge again when the threat had passed.
My favourite part of the game- when I realized that on defensive set pieces Unai let’s his boy JCC coach his men into position and once the threat is clear, it’s all Unai#ARSBLA #Coaching pic.twitter.com/YM2EmsZlqW
