With the scores locked at 0-0 till deep into injury time, it appeared likely that the season’s first Merseyside derby was destined to end in a draw.
That was until Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford decided to do Liverpool a huge favor by turning in Virgil van Dijk’s miscued volley back into play, only for a lurking Divock Origi to head the ball in.
While Pickford’s misjudgment resulted in Reds fans going absolutely wild, travelling Toffees supporters who had already started celebrating their team holding off their rivals to a hard-fought draw were left quite shell-shocked.
In fact, some of the away fans had even let off pyro just seconds before the goal, probably as Van Dijk’s sloppy effort appeared to be going out.
While we feel for the Blues’ heartbroken fans, they should have been careful with the premature celebrations as they are known to come back and bite.
