How about that, Yohan?
Newcastle’s entourage is gathering momentum as Rafael Benitez’s side keep on motoring up the Premier League table. Their recent win against Crystal Palace has put them in contention for European places.
A 1-0 victory against relegation threatened Eagles, came after some late heroics from substitute Mikel Merino. The new signing rose highest to head home the winner, however the highlight of the game was what followed in the aftermath of the stunning goal from the Spaniard.
As fellow teammates rushed to celebrate with the goalscorer, Jonjo Shelvey decided to rub it in Yohan Cabaye’s face apparently.
The Frenchman has been immensely unpopular at Tyneside since departing for PSG in unceremonious circumstances, hence it was no surprise that Shelvey didn’t let up in letting their disgruntled feelings known to the Crystal Palace man.
Needless to say Newcastle fans loved every bit of that display from Shelvey, check out the picture below –
Huddersfield claimed a famous result this weekend when they edged Manchester United 2-1 at home. The Red Devils failed to capitalise despite dominating possession for large periods of play.
Their was a sense of karma for Liverpool supporters though, who were on the opposite end of similar tactics deployed by the Portuguese mastermind when both sides faced each other at Anfield.
On Saturday David Wagner took a leaf out of Mourinho’s managerial masterclass as Manchester United were left frustrated as they looked out of sorts against their own signature style of defending after Huddersfield took a 2-goal lead.
No excuses for Jose this time it seems, the result will be music to Kopites ears, particularly the possession stat which does little justice to the final outcome.
Check out the stats below –
For a club which boasts a worldwide fanbase, Newcastle are yet to do justice to their potential. Part of the reason for their obscurity is Mike Ashley if the fans are to be believed. The man at the helm has been unanimously criticised for his negligence towards the club.
So when rumblings about a prospective takeover came into the fray, Magpies supporters were bound to be pleased. However a recent tweet from a certain West Ham sponsor seem to suggest that the deal might be off.
The news comes after speculation of a £300 million bid by Amanda Staveley, the model turned businesswoman has previously brokered Manchester City’s sale to Etihad owners and is well connected in Premier League realms.
However, Rich energy (West Ham Ladies sponsor) have quashed any persisting rumours of a sale, notifying that reports linking Staveley to the Toons are wide of the mark.
Check out the tweet from Rich Energy below –
The Toon fans though, are having none of it and are accusing the energy drink brand of spreading fake news.
Baffling error from the Global corporation
The divide between Tottenham and Chelsea has been the highlight of London derbies with both clubs vying for the top spot in past seasons. The uncompromising hatred that has built up between the two neighbours has resulted in memorable clashes between the two.
However, Nike seems to have violated the sanctity of this paramount rivalry. In a major and unexpected gaffe, the reputed brand was found guilty of selling Chelsea merchandise with a Spurs logo on it.
The iconic cockerel engraved over a Chelsea outfit has left the Blues fans raging over Nike’s incompetency in fulfilling supporters expectations.
An absolute blunder, check out a screenshot from the official Nike store below –
Spurs just keep getting better
Classified for an eternity as a mid-table club, Tottenham have undergone a tremendous transformation under Mauricio Pochettino. Their recent visit to Santiago Bernabeu epitomized the contrast in quality between now and the Spurs of old.
As Harry Kane’s deflected finish sailed over the stranded Madrid goalkeeper, the away section burst into celebration. Long had they waited for this moment of reckoning as Spurs gave the European Champions, a run for their money.
A throwback to 2011, when Real Madrid walloped them 4-0 at the Bernabeu is testament to the progress the North London club have made since then. On Saturday Tottenham were unflustered as they came up against the mighty Real Madrid and produced a performance good enough to hold Zinedine Zidane’s men to a 1-1 draw having lead them in their own backyard.
No wonder the COYS chanters went ballistic when after their goal, check out the video below –
Selfie time goes all wrong for Theo Walcott
Arsenal supporters were still reeling from their capitulation against Watford last week when Theo Walcott decided to post an update about his progress in the gym.
Daft as it was, the winger further compared his training time to the amount of sweat which in reality was scarcely visible. Walcott, who is yet to start for the Gunners this season got berated for his lame attempt to showboat on social media.
A time when their team is looking for leaders on the pitch, the English international is a beacon of unfulfilled potential so frequently associated with Arsenal Football Club. Furthermore he is yet to justify his inflated wage packet of £140,000 as supporters legitimately clamour for a revamped squad.
Not the most clever sense of occasion and words from the injury prone number 14 as once more Arsenal find themselves playing catch up this season.
Check out Walcott’s tweet below –
Argentine is set to make his long awaited return to action
Marcos Rojo was finally showing signs of the accomplished defender that graced Argentina’s left-back spot during their run to the final of FIFA World Cup 2014, when a season ending injury curtailed his progress mid-April this year.
Fast forward six months and the Argentine’s recovery is already ahead of schedule, prompting Jose Mourinho to include the versatile left sided operator in Manchester United’s squad for their Champions League tie against Benfica.
The Red Devils have been short on cover for the left-back spot and his return would definitely strengthen an area of concern for the supporters, having had only Daley Blind as a fit for that position. Moreover his ability to play in central defence would come in handy as the season progresses.
Manchester United fans were certainly glad to see the Argentine again in the mix of things. Check out a picture of Marcos Rojo travelling with the squad for Lisbon below –
Bavarians look to flex their muscle against Celtic
Brendan Rodgers’s men travel to Munich for their Champions League tie this week as the Scottish side look to give the newly appointed Jupp Heynckes a tough time at home.
However, there is a reason why the German side are considered one of the best attacking units in world football and if renowned Sports magazine Kicker are to be believed, Heynckes is expected to go all guns blazing against Celtic.
Celtic’s relatively inexperienced backline will have to negotiate with the menacingly quick Arjen Robben and Kingsley Coman on the wings with a certain Robert Lewandowski prowling in the centre. The stability in the centre of the park will be of prime importance for Brendan Rodgers in order to stop the elusive duo of Thiago and Muller.
A stern task indeed for the Scottish Champions, yet it seems games like this one will shape their identity as a genuine European force. Check out the expected Bayern lineup below –
This online rant is pure overkill
Reading secured a hard fought victory over Leeds United on Saturday, winning 1-0 at Elland Road. While much of their fanbase were delighted with the result, one fan was not quite satisfied yet.
In a bizarre reaction to the win, Reading fan @thesimpsonRFC penned a sarcastic apology towards the Peacocks for ruining their evening, going on as far as to ask the FA to investigate into the conspiracy against Leeds United.
Perhaps not happy with just the 3 points from the game, this was clearly an immature attempt by an overzealous supporter who might have done more damage than good as the internet has had a hearty laugh on his cheeky Twitter stunt.
While certain over the top reactions are expected following disappointing results, this was way beyond comprehension from a footballing perspective. Perhaps, a more palpable argument would suffice next time.

Davinson Sanchez has been imperious since his move from Ajax in the summer transfer window.
The Colombian was superb again as Spurs registered their first win at home this season against an underrated Bournemouth side yesterday.
A 1-0 win to shelve any lingering doubts about their inability to perform at home, fans would be relieved to have gotten that monkey off their back with the Premier League campaign getting serious.
Post match Sanchez acknowledged the relentless support from the Spurs faithful, especially when the Wembley hoodoo smeared it’s ugly head time and again.
Slowly clawing their way back to the top, the North London side can finally move on and express themselves at home, having got one over their home curse it seems.
