Chelsea suffered a disappointing defeat at the hands of Spurs in the first leg of the semi finals of Carabao Cup.
An evenly contested game at Wembley was decided by a controversial VAR decision that awarded Spurs with a penalty, overturning an offside decision.
Chelsea have seen their form dwindle over the last few weeks and risk losing a few names. Hazard, who has been linked with a move away to Real Madrid, was the pick of the players for Chelsea yesterday.
Constantly running at defenders and trying to create chances, Hazard did not receive sufficient support from players around him as Willian, Barkley and Alonso had a poor outing.
His dissatisfaction could be seen in the video where Alonso refused to pass the ball to the Belgian when he was open, only to take extra few touches and pass it to him when he was quickly closed down by two Spurs players.
His visible frustration was reciprocated by fans, who have been disappointed by a few selections lately. Check out the incident below –
Alonso is the most awkward dribbler I’ve ever seen. He constantly does this weird touch over and over with his left foot ever so slowly. I don’t think he’s ever sprinted with the ball or used his right foot for a touch. Becoming clear Hazard’s had enough.pic.twitter.com/FI4h8uFj5E
Willian and Marcos Alonso haven’t shown much promise lately and repeated chances to the former sees the club at the risk of losing a bright young talent in Hudson-Odoi. The fans would hope Sarri is quick to realise the tweaks required in his team so the fan favourites stick around for longer and help the team win more titles.
Chelsea were held to a goalless draw during their midweek clash against Southampton. The Blues failed to capitalise and close down the gap on the top 3 as Arsenal and Man United look to challenge them for the top 4 spot.
A disappointing start to the new year for Chelsea did have moments of excitement for the fans. One of them being a scintillating volleyed pass by Kepa.
The most expensive keeper in the history of the game, displayed his composure and technique as he volleyed the ball through to Loftus-Cheek, splitting the Saints’ press, taking out 5 players at once.
The Chelsea goalkeeper has had a good start to his career at Stamford Bridge so far and has been a crucial part of Chelsea’s Sarriball.
The highly rated youngster enjoys a passing success rate of 86%, higher than Alisson and Ederson.
Having kept 10 cleansheets, some might admit his performances have gone a bit under the radar but he continues to remind us of his quality with passes like these.
Liverpool saw their unbeaten run come to an end as they were beaten 2-1 by the defending champions Manchester City last night.
Their first loss of the season sees them pegged back to a 4 point lead with Manchester City looking to catch up.
Liverpool’s defeat saw rivals take their chance to mock the blip in Liverpool’s campaign and one of them was Everton old boy, Steven Pienaar.
The Evertonian, who is currently serving as an international ambassador for the Toffees, took to Twitter as he mocked the premature celebrations from Liverpool fans.
The former South African international claimed that the league title was a marathon and even though his rivals play attractive football, they still have a long way to go before they actually win the trophy.
The defeat does not change the fact that Liverpool still remain the front-runners to win their first league title in 29 years, but it does bring back Manchester City in it, who look like they have found their form after suffering two consecutive shock defeats during the Christmas period.

The January transfer window is now open and the transfer rumours are in full flow with some exciting young players expected to move within the next few months. One of the biggest talents being the German striker Timo Werner.
The Leipzig striker has been linked with some of the top clubs with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Liverpool all looking for his signature.
Liverpool have been linked with Timo Werner for a while now and the general feeling among Reds fans is that they would love to see the club go for him and add more quality and depth into the squad.
An image released on social media was seen with Werner in the red of Liverpool and although it was an edit, fans would admit he looked right at home.
Liverpool are already flying in the league and would hope they can add the German international to their ranks.
Tottenham Hotspur bounced back from a shocking defeat at the hands of Wolves to beat Cardiff City by 3 goals to nil.
The win in the Welsh capital sees them reclaim the second spot for the time being as Manchester City take on Liverpool on Thursday.
Following a second half collapse at the weekend, Spurs made sure they left no chance of another comeback as they scored 3 in the first half an hour to settle the game. In a scintillating display with some smooth counter attacks, one player that stood out was Moussa Sissoko.
The French international, who has regained his confidence and form, put in a tireless shift in what ended up being a routine win for Spurs. He lead the counter attacks with his powerful runs and made a key pass in the build up to the second goal.
I have just witnessed Moussa Sissoko spray a cross field pass. Scenes
His brilliant performance was summed up with a late cross-field ball he played out to Danny Rose. Check it out below –
The inch perfect ball, played in the injury time, was a massive hit among the Spurs fans, who would be hoping for more of these top performances from their midfielder as they look to challenge Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League title.
Liverpool fans were treated to yet another superb win as they strengthened their lead at the top of the table after an impressive performance against the Gunners last week.
In a game which saw Liverpool players find the back of the net quite frequently, Gini Wijnaldum was spotted missing the goal from a mere 5 yards following the penalty scored by Salah.
The Dutch international was caught on cam missing the target by quite a margin as the ball landed a few rows back in the crowd.
Where there were clips for the year end blooper reel, the game also had its share of wholesome moments.
Mo giving the ball to Bobby for his hat-trick goal
As seen on ‘Inside Anfield’, Mo Salah was spotted handing the ball over to Firmino for the second penalty of the game. The Egyptian gave up the chance to take the lead in the race for Golden Boot, as he allowed his teammate a chance to complete a well deserved hat-trick.
The moment which made Klopp emotional as he confessed post match, was received with a huge cheer from the crowd.
Check out the latest Inside Anfield below, Gini’s miss comes in around the 08.36 mark –
