India vs England, Final Score at Stumps on day 1 of First Test (Highlights Video below)
India 323/4 off 90 overs (Virender Sehwag 117, Cheteshwar Pujara 98 not out, Graeme Swann 4/85)
Morning Session: Highlights
Dhoni won an important toss in the morning and as expected, opted to make first use of the wicket. And then the two Delhi boys gave India the perfect start with a century stand. The morning session belonged to India completely. The score was 120/0 and Sehwag was looking very, very good on 79. Gambhir was giving him company with 37.
Afternoon Session: Highlights
Prior drops Sehwag early on. A bad mistake. But in the second over after lunch, Swann gets Gambhir. The opener tries to cut an incoming delivery and is bowled. Score: 134/1
Pujara comes in at no.3.
Sehwag gets his century in the 40th over of the innings. A loft off Swann gets him a boundary, and the century comes off just 90 balls.
Unexpectedly, Sehwag slows down after his century. On the other side, Pujara is looking solid. Are we looking at Dravid’s long term replacement?
Swann gets his second wicket when he gets one through Sehwag. 117 runs (117 balls, 5 x 4, 1 x 6) You can watch the highlights of the (majority of) Sehwag innings in the first video below.
And the England spinner gets a third one when Tendulkar tries to lift him. The ball turns on Tendulkar who was probably looking at going straighter than he ended up doing. Samit Patel completes an easy catch. Bad shot, bad idea. He goes for 13. India are 250/3
Tea time score: 250/3
Post-tea Session Highlights
Kohli struggles to get his first run. 23 balls and still a duck. Off the 24th ball, he finally manages to break the shackles with a classical on-drive off a Broad delivery.
Trott drops him in Swann’s next over.
England must be ruing the decision to pick Bresnan over Panesar. Cook is sorely missing the services of a second spinner.
Swann picks up Kohli. The ball rips back onto the stumps and India’s best batsmen of the last year is completely flummoxed.
Pujara continues to look good. Yuvraj joins him in the middle.
The day closes with Pujara two shy of his second test century. Yuvraj is on 24.
