Twenty20 Records: Highest Team Score in T20 Internationals

How Twenty20 cricket has changed the entire complexion of the game! This list of Teams with the Highest Score in a T20 international match is indeed an eye opener.

There used to be a time when a team scoring runs 200 runs in a 50 overs ODI game fancied its chances to restrict the opposition. Indeed, India defended a score of 183 in a World Cup Final, and that was a 60 overs per side affair.

But that was 1983. Fast Forward to 2012, and the scenario completely changes. In the very first Twenty20 International played at the Eden Park in Auckland on 17 February 2005, Australia scored 214. In the seven years since, many teams have scored over 200 in a T20 innings.

Sri Lanka holds the record for the highest team score in a T20 innings. This record created during the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 in South Africa still stands, and by a big margin at that.

Sanath Jayasurya’s 88 which came at the rate of 2 runs per ball created the platform for that record score. However, it was a quickfire cameo from Jehan Mubarak towards the end of the match that finally got them to that record total which, more than seven years later, still stands. Mubarak scored 46 off just 13 balls.

Watch the video of that match as Sri Lanka make that record 260.
