Can Arsenal Today Afford to Lose the Dutch Master Robin Van Persie?

High on the super smashing derby victory against Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal Football Club must move their focus towards retaining their captain Robin Van Persie for as long as possible. The club is definitely buoyed by the improvement in certain players but Robin Van Persie still remains the most important player in the Arsenal squad.

Van Persie has single-handedly taken the responsibilities with a very little support from the other members. And the work rate has been quite stupendous to say the least.  The Dutch master is currently the top scorer in the Premier League, while none of the other Arsenal players are even close.

Definitely the win against spurs was morale boosting but losses against Milan and Sunderland should not be forgotten. And coming weekend they would face a Liverpool side high on confident after their Carling Cup win. And at Anfield, Arsenal will need to be their topmost game to fetch any result in their favor.

Robin Van Persie seems to be in the middle of  every goal which Arsenal scores. His assists has made the likes of Rosicky, Walcott and Sagna look pretty good. The man commands respect in and out of the field and is a role model for the younger lot in the squad.

Owners Ivan Gazidis and Stan Kroenke need to invest in their captain first rather than anybody else as no player in the World right now can encourage like he does.

Offering Van Persie with an improved contract will also help the club in boosting its financial status in the longer term. With Fabregas being history now, Van Persie remains the truly worldwide face for the club and that itself is a revenue of massive terms.

So, the most important aspect of Arsenal’s season could well come in the next few days, when the owners and the board decide how important is Robin Van Persie to their plans. And how much of a improved contract is presented to their captain.
