Absolutely Insane Stats Which Proves How Mousa Dembele Makes This Tottenham Team Tick

Spurs had an outstanding 2015-16 season as they fought neck to neck with Champions Leicester City for much of the season. Unfortunately a shambolic end to their season saw them finish in 3rd place.

Pivotal to their unlikely title pursuit were the exceptional performances of players such as Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Toby Alderweireld, Christian Eriksen and Hugo Lloris among others. However the way the Tottenham team set up rested very much on a certain unsung hero in the guise of Belgian midfielder Mousa Dembele. While it seems queer to lend so much credence for the success of a whole team to a player who scored just 3 goals with a lone assist, the stats clearly show that Dembele was a very vital cog in the Tottenham side.

Tottenham lost just once in 27 league games featuring the Belgian contrary to losing 5 in 11 without him. They also scored more goals when he featured, managing 2.1 per game compared to 1.3 without him.

There is also the curious case of Harry Kane scoring just 1 goal in 11 games when Dembele didn’t feature compared to plundering 24 goals in 27 games when the he started. The defensive stats also speak warmly in favour of the Belgian with Spurs conceding fewer in games he featured in.

While stats do not tell the whole story, they however clearly highlight the importance of Dembele in the Tottenham side.

With him serving a 6 game suspension, Tottenham have direly missed his presence in the middle of the pitch. While he may not score stunners like a Yaya Toure or play fancy passes likes Ozil, he is certainly the kind of player that makes the whole team better and Tottenham will be very much eager to have him back soon.
