Newcastle fan reveals why Jonjo Shelvey is known as ‘Mr. President’ in South Korea

Newcastle United have been a rocky outfit to support in recent years. However, the club have a vast and loyal fanbase that has stuck with them through thick & thin and currently seem likely to make their presence felt in the Premier League next season again.

Despite being overshadowed by the Premier League giants in England, Newcastle United still has a hardcore fanbase outside of the country.

The recent heart-warming story of a South Korean Toon fan who traveled more than 5000 miles to watch a couple of the recent home games just shows the global fan support for Newcastle United.

Amusingly, the same fan also revealed a rather hilarious anecdote about why South Korean fans like Jonjo Shelvey.

According to him, the Newcastle midfielder is a favourite among many South Korean football fans and is nicknamed “Mr. President” because he bears more than a passing resemblance to ex-President Lee Myung-bak !

  1. Over shadowed by the big boys in England? NEVER in terms of support. Never. Away support is a new thing for the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal they were pathetic in the 80’s. In terms of true English support, if anything we look down our noses at virtually everyone.
