Stat Attack: Why dropping Adam Lallana back in the Liverpool midfield is a no brainer

While there has never been any doubting the footballing qualities of Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana, the Englishman certainly looks a player transformed this season with the England international already having surpassed his best ever goal tally for a season with seven goals along seven assists this term.

Lallana’s resurgence this season has coincided with Jurgen Klopp employing the former Southampton man deep in a central midfield role behind Liverpool’s ultra attacking trio of Coutinho, Mane and Firmino.

The German coach seems to have identified Lallana’s ideal position as a deep lying midfielder with the move reaping dividends for Liverpool.

But with the absence of Sadio Mane, who is currently plying his trade with Senegal at the AFCON, Klopp has been forced to play Lallana in the wings and the results have poor to say the least.

The stats below just goes to show Lallana’s effectiveness at central midfield with seven goals and six assists coming from games where Lallana started in central midfield.
