Picture of the Day: Only one stand now remains of West Ham’s old Upton Park ground

West Ham United’s move to the Olympic Stadium in London was well publicized last season, as the Hammers beat out clubs like rivals Tottenham to secure the stadium as their new home. The boost in seating numbers as well as the modernity of the new stadium was an added bonus.

Since the move, West Ham’s fortunes have been somewhat mixed, even flirting with relegation at one point this season. There’s also the fact that their old stadium of Boleyn Ground or Upton Park as it was known in the old days, was being demolished since it was no longer of any use.

For a club with fans as traditional as West Ham, the loss of the old stadium will no doubt sting a little, especially considering all the memories attached to it. That feeling of sadness would no doubt be intensified on viewing what the stadium looks like now; reduced to rubble, only a single stand remains.

  1. Lovely! I have always hated going there as I never had any mates to go with. I use to remain in barking Road stuffing mt little squashed face with greasy chicken.
