For all those associated with Tottenham Hotspur, Sunday somewhat turned out to be a bittersweet evening as they lost young midfielder Harry Winks to a horrific injury despite closing the gap on league leaders Chelsea with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Burnley.
Winks, an academy graduate was handed a rare start following a string of fantastic performances from the bench this term. And while the midfielder put in yet another impressive shift in the opening exchanges, the evening quickly turned grim for the 21 year old as he left the pitch on crutches following a freak injury in which he missed a tackle and went crashing into the drink crates on the sidelines.
Spurs’ medical staff quickly rushed to a static Winks lying rooted to the spot where he fell. It is yet unclear the extent of the injury as a visibly distraught Winks left the pitch on crutches and a protective boot.
