Imitation as Flattery

One of the surest signs that a player will be remembered is if he scores one of those amazing goals that everyone wants to emulate – think of how many players worldwide would be trying (and failing many times over) to recreate Marco Van Basten’s Volley or even Maradona against England in 1986.

Ben Davies was given the task to re-enact Gareth Bale’s sumptuous first-time finish from the 2011 season of the Premier League. Davies had a few of his Tottenham team-mates cheering (and mocking) him as he attempted to copy the Welshman’s exquisite goal for BT Sport.

Needless to say, more than one attempt was required but Davies delivered on the last of his four chances. Now he just needs to repeat it with some tight marking around him at a packed English stadium and maybe even he could be the next 100 million man!

Mauricio Pochettino will be certainly be hoping Davies could bring some of that Bale magic as Spurs look to continue winning ways and lay siege to Chelsea at the summit of the table.
