Despite coming short in terms of the dizzying glamour associated with the English Premier League, the less heralded Sky Bet Championship has in its own respect proved nothing short of excitement and drama this season.
The likes of Newcastle United, Brighton and Leeds United in particular have made headlines with their admirable performances throughout the season.
Friday promised to be another memorable night in the Championship as league leaders Newcastle United took on fellow promotion hopefuls Leeds United in an encounter of epic proportions with the result likely to have a strong bearing in the race for the title and the play-off places.
The match while coming short in terms of quality surely did not disappoint in terms of drama with Leeds frontman Chris Wood scoring a terrific 95th minute equaliser to secure a share of the spoils for Gary Monk’s men.
Aside from the late twist, another dramatic episode unfolded just moments before the late goal when a Leeds fan invaded the pitch. The invader was eventually hauled off the pitch by stewards but not before managing to create a ruckus with Rob Green and Pontus Jansson.
After bowing down to Green, the fan got into a scuffle with Jansson when he attempted to hug the defender only for Jansson to push him away.
