Celtic secured a date with Aberdeen in the finals of the Scottish Cup following a 2-0 win over arch rivals Rangers in the semi-final round at Hampden Park yesterday.
The game was pretty straightforward as far as the result was concerned, but like every Old Firm derby, this one too was not free from controversy.
Caught in the middle of the storm was striker Leigh Griffiths, whose bringing down in the box by Rangers full-back Tavernier came under a lot of fire after the foul resulted in a penalty for the Hoops.
But while Griffiths’ penalty claim is debatable, what is not is the fact that the 26-year old had a brilliant game after starting in the squad following many injuries this season.
Griffiths came extremely close to scoring a goal of his own after handling an overhead long pass with amazing control and a thundering strike that was just pushed above the crossbar by Rangers’ keeper.
