City skipper Vincent Kompany with a wonderful gesture towards Man Utd youngster Timothy Fosu-Mensah post derby draw

A Great Touch

The latest edition of the Manchester Derby certainly did not light up the park after a goal-less draw, but it was as fiercely contested as any other. One of the unfortunate victims of the intensity of the match was young Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

The Dutchman only came on in the 86th minute but it proved enough time for him to dislocate his shoulder in a challenge with Vincent Kompany as his name was added to United’s already lengthy injury list. While the teenager would certainly be rueing his luck, it did provide the City skipper with an opportunity to show his gracious nature.

Kompany had a personally signed shirt sent to Fosu-Mensah with the message wishing him a speedy recovery. The apology was overwhelmingly accepted via an approving Instagram post – there are still some nice guys in football it appears.

Bitter enmity aside, Kompany’s gesture towards a young talent certainly speaks volumes for his character, and is something that the two divided sets of fans could finally agree on.
