The Ecstasy and the Agony

Sometimes a moment comes to pass in football that seemingly sums up the beauty of not just the game but of human athleticism, something that can scarcely be put into words but is more of an experience meant purely to be felt and seen.

Emre Can certainly had one of those moments as his sublime bicycle-kick goal against Watford has had everyone in awe of the midfielder. That it also proved to be the only difference between the sides as Liverpool look to clinch Champions’ League football made it all the more sweeter.

Of course, joy and misery are often two sides of the same coin – and the latter was clearly felt on the part of the Watford fans who helplessly looked on as Can put forward his entry for Goal of the Season. The Hornets’ perspective was captured brilliantly in the expression of one home supporter who had the perfect combination of being horror-struck and awe-struck simultaneously.

Liverpool’s 1-0 win is a huge boost for the Anfield club in the face of their Top-4 rivals’ failures to come away with full points on the weekend as Can definitely proved he was the man; just not in the case of the hosts of course.
