Newcastle United winning the EFL Championship last season meant that the Premier League would be back at St James’ Park next term, and it seems like Rafa Benitez will leave no stone unturned in the quest to avoid relegation and maybe finish mid table next season.

The Magpies announced their second signing of this transfer window – Florian Lejeune from Eibar. The 26 year old French defender agreed a five-year-deal with Newcastle for a transfer fee understood to be in the region of around £8.7m.

The former France under 20 international has been described by Rafa as a player who is “Good with both feet, big and good in the air”. Lejeune seemed to be very happy upon getting a chance with Benitez. He said “When you have a manager like Rafa Benítez who wants you, you are very happy to come.”

An old clip has been trending on Twitter and Newcastle fans are absolutely loving it as it features a thunderous long ranged goal by their new boy Lejuene for one of his old teams Girona against Numancia back in 2015.

The ball gets cleared and falls straight to Lejuene, the Centre back then makes some space and blasts a blazing drive from around 30 yards straight to the top right corner, beyond the keeper who falls helplessly to the ground. Safe to say, the big French defender has an eye for goal.
