A quick shimmy with his right boot, followed by a decoy with his left and a seemingly impossible rabona with the right again, Kieran Trippier bamboozled Jamie Vardy into committing an offence with a quite outrageous piece of football wizardry. Although an argument can be made on the legitimacy of intent, yet the Spurs fans will be having none of it.
Especially Kyle Walker, who must have been left with jitters down his spine in the aftermath of his deputy’s brilliance. Walker, who has been a perennial presence in the COYS backline has completed his move to Manchester City this week and it is safe to presume that after witnessing the former Burnley man’s mesmerizing skill, he would be sweating on his National Team Berth too.
The White Hart Lane faithful have a conundrum on their hands, ruminating about the perfect replacement for their right back, who had produced his best ever season in the league before leaving for greener pastures. Perhaps, this was Trippier’s way of announcing his candidature for the first team spot.
Possessing the skill set required to compete at the big stage, performing well in the Europa League last season, the regular substitute has an eye for the extraordinary as well. The North London club have a genuine prospect on their hands and don’t need look further away from home for a replacement.
