Manchester United and Manchester City fans never miss a chance to take a dig at each other. Even if it means doing it during the lesser lights of the pre-season. Just look at the banner put up by the fans of the latter.

In what seems like pre match excursions, Manchester City fans stick up a banner mocking United’s league position of last season. Despite winning three trophies in 2016/17, Jose Mourinho couldn’t emulate a similar kind of success in the Premier League as the Red Devils finished outside top five for the third time in the last four years.

City, who ended last season trophyless in Guardiola’s first season in-charge, could only salve a third position finish, which is still above United. And that’s what the fans tried to brag about here.

However, the showboating backfired soon as the scant number of fans showing up there put City on the receiving end of some mockery instead.

The joke was now on City as United fans turned the stunt on its head. The Sky Blues, who are often derided for their artificial supporters, were subjected to the same ridicule once again as a low attendance of the City fans while taking the dig became the butt of all jokes for the rival fan base.

Manchester City may be financially backed by their UAE based owners, but not so staunchly backed by their adherents.

  1. Obviously the writer of this article has just woken up to the fact that a soccer ball is round.
I live in and work on Barrow Island Western Australia and realize Manchester City are one of the best supported football teams in the world.
The supporters are mostly home grown with people like me watching the team for great football entertainment.
Man City; Great Team; Great supporters (if not the best).

  2. You stupid writer,Mancity is owned by UAE citizen,Sheik Mansour.
Mancity has or than million die hard fans not as you think.
Fuck you man, your enemy of Mancity or jealous of our wealth.
