(Video) Newcastle new boy Mikel Merino pulled off a delicious nutmeg during 3-0 West Ham win

Kid might be the next Xabi Alonso

Having lost both of their opening matches, Newcastle were under pressure when they faced West Ham last Saturday.

Manager Rafa Benitez continued his faith with Dortmund loanee Mikel Merino in the lineup and the Spaniard delivered an inspired performance for the Magpies.

Merino pulled the strings from midfield, frequently finding runners with quick passes between the lines.

The midfielder looked extremely adept at finding space and playing out of the back. One moment in particular highlighted his awareness of the proceedings when he read the miscontrolled touch from Cheikhou Kouyate and left him for dead with a clever nutmeg.

It was an excellent display by the young prospect, helping his team clinch a resounding 3-0 win. The Toon army will be hoping he can continue this vein of form.
