Aided by second half goals from James Forrest and Moussa Dembele, Celtic claimed their 17th Scottish League Cup title with a convincing 2-0 win over Motherwell last night.
Perhaps overshadowed by the excellent performances from defenders Dedryck Boyata & Jozo Simunovic, and midfielder Scott Brown, the unsung hero of the day was goalkeeper Craig Gordon.
With the score at 1-0, Gordon pulled off a brilliant save with his right arm to stop Motherwell striker Louis Moult’s menacing header in the 53rd minute.
The athletic save, and the sending off of Cedric Kipre in the 58th minute for his reckless challenge on Scott Sinclair, sucked away any fighting spirit Motherwell had left, as Celtic once again emerged victorious in a dream season for them.
