Newcastle United’s horror run in the Premier League continued with a 3-0 thumping at the hands of Watford last weekend. It was their fourth defeat on the trot and fans were left fuming at the performance, a sentiment shared by the team’s manager, Rafael Benitez.
In his presser before the West Brom game, the Spaniard lambasted the board in as many words, as he rued the missed opportunities during the summer transfer window to sign better players.
Citing a dearth of funds for transfer fees and wages for new signings, Benitez revealed that his discussions with club owner Mike Ashley at the start of the season were in vain, and that he even predicted this dry run due to lack of squad depth in the meeting.
The 57-year-old, however, assured fans that the current crop of players are giving their best in each game, and was sure that they will make the most out of the available resources to turn things around for the club.
