After a long summer, controversies, back-channel talks, and promises of a truckload of money, Virgil van Dijk’s transfer saga finally came to an end yesterday.
Southampton inevitably agreed to part with the Dutchman after Liverpool assured to pay a massive £75 million, effectively making him the most expensive defender in history.
The Reds had to face an arduous battle to sign their target. Apart from an adamant Southampton, their problems had also included a rap on their knuckles by the Premier League for their illegal approach towards the defender.
All things said and done, it was finally a relief for Liverpool fans to see Van Dijk’s signing, notwithstanding the hefty price tag which he came with.
