The last game of 2017 was certainly not low on drama as West Brom cancelled out Arsenal’s goal via a late and highly controversial Jay Rodriguez penalty.
Mike Dean irked the wrath of the away contingent when he pointed to the spot for an alleged Calum Chambers handball in the 89th minute which was clinically dispatched by Jay Rodriguez to move West Brom out of the foot of the Premier League table.
Arsene Wenger and his players were understandably disgruntled about the decision and the Frenchman was quick to express his thoughts to Mike Dean from the touchline while Arsenal players confronted the referee immediately after the decision.
Amongst the protesting players perhaps it was even more surprising that Mike Dean decided to book Arsenal stopper Petr Cech who is often cited as the ‘quiet’ type by his peers.
A journalist managed to catch Cech after the full time whistle and the former Chelsea ace looked far from happy with the controversial penalty.
A seething Cech went on to say that the decision was perhaps the most disappointing one he has faced in his entire career explaining how the referee snubbed him when he enquired about the penalty.
The anger oozing out a usually calm headed Cech managed to irk Gooners even more who took to social media following the result to slate the dubious decision.
