The Merseyside derby promised to be the FA Cup’s most mouth watering 3rd round tie and rightly lived up to it’s billing.
The Toffees have been on a resurgent run ever since Big Sam took over but ran out of steam against their arch rivals last evening.
Liverpool’s record signing, Virgil van Djik couldn’t have asked for a better debut as he scored an 84th minute winner for his new employers, breaking Everton hearts in the bargain.
The late winner sent Anfield into raptures, with manager Jurgen Klopp resorting to his passionate celebrations as usual.
One familiar face that didn’t have a smile was that of Everton assistant manager Sammy Lee.
Lee, a Liverpool great in his own right spent a good decade at Anfield as a player in the 70s & 80s before returning as Rafa Benitez’s assistant in the 2000s.
This time however, the Englishman didn’t have a pleasant return to his old stomping ground evident by this grimace of his captured by cameras as his side conceded a late winner.
