It’s a known fact that in his youth Dimitar Berbatov worshipped Newcastle United and their legendary forward Alan Shearer.

Such was his admiration that he even slept in a Newcastle number 9 shirt he had received from his parents for his 18th birthday; dreaming about getting to play in the English Premier League one day and scoring goals just like his idol.

Berbatov’s dream did come true as he went on to showcase his ability for Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United for a number of years.

Even though the 37-year-old never got the chance to play for the club he idolised as a teenager, his old jersey was kept safe by his mother for over 20 years and the Bulgarian striker has taken to Instagram to pose in the same.

The black and white shirt seems to suit Berbatov well and Newcastle fans would be surely be left wondering “what if?”
