Rangers thrashed Scottish Championship side Ayr United 4-0 in the League Cup on Wednesday night. The performance and the result ensured that Rangers maintained their splendid recent form, as this result came on the back of a 5-1 thrashing of St. Johnstone and a 2-2 draw away at Villarreal in the Europa League opener in their past two games.
The star of the show for the Gers was undoubtedly winger Glenn Middleton. The 18-year-old absolutely terrorized the Ayr back line with his pace and trickery and deservedly scored a lovely brace. His second goal and Rangers’ fourth of the game in particular, involved a beautiful piece of skill.
Middleton received the ball with his back to goal and produced a lovely touch and turn to take both of Ayr’s central defenders Michael Rose and Jamie Adams, out of the game. The 18-year-old then produced a calm finish across the keeper, thus scoring what was undoubtedly the goal of the game.
Rangers fans were mightily impressed by Middleton’s sublime piece of skill:

If Middleton can keep producing similar performances when given a chance, he would surely stake his claim on for a spot in Rangers’ first eleven and give Steven Gerrard a selection headache.
