After looking like the second best team for most of the opening exchanges, Arsenal rallied back in the second half to defeat Watford 2-0.
It was the Gunners’ seventh straight win and fans would have been especially pleased by the performance of their star man, Mesut Ozil, who finally showed glimpses of his immense talent.
Ironically, it was the 63rd minute substitution of another fan-favorite, Aaron Ramsey, which allowed Ozil to run the show as the German moved to his preferred central position in midfield.
The 29-year-old’s creative influence in the centre of the park was on full display as the hosts appeared noticeably smoother on the ball as Ozil called the shots with some slick passing.
While he also scored his team’s second goal, the most impressive aspect of Ozil’s performance was his willingness to fight for the ball, which was apparent in the 90th minute of the game when he tracked back to win back possession from Watford in his own half.
The midfield maestro has often been accused in the past of not doing enough off the ball so it was a brilliant reply to his detractors. Check out the moment:
