Liverpool were deservedly punished for their sloppiness as a 90th minute strike from Lorenzo Insigne condemned them to a 1-0 defeat against Napoli in the Champions League group stage encounter last night.
After a below par performance in the first forty-five minutes from both sides, Carlo Ancelotti’s men came out all guns blazing in the second half to outplay the Reds and had quite a few close chances to score.
But they were denied by the brilliance of visitors’ £65 million goalkeeper, Alisson, who made some challenging saves to keep his team in the match before conceding the late goal.
One of his brilliant saves did not even register to the naked eye as the Brazilian appeared stranded when Dries Mertens shinned a shot onto the underside off the bar after receiving a wonderful cross.
Slow-motion replays though, showed that Alisson had actually managed to get fingertips on the ball, which possibly led to a change in its trajectory by millimeters.
