Liverpool ensured their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign continued, picking up a nervy 1-0 victory against Huddersfield United on Saturday.
While Mo Salah’s 50th goal in English football got them the lead, it was some tight defending led once again by Virgil van Dijk that stood strong to hold on for a narrow win.
The clean sheet means that the Merseyside club has conceded just thrice in the league so far – their lowest ever tally after nine games – and Van Dijk’s calm presence at the heart of their defence has been a major factor for it.
The Dutchman was inspirational again as he kept out any threats and impressed in all facets of the game, specially in the second half when the Terriers started pressing.
The 27-year-old has looked a natural leader in all the games he’s been involved with at Liverpool and was rightfully given the armband when regular captain Jordan Henderson was subbed early in the second half.
Arguably the best player on the pitch for the visitors, the centre-back was spotted admiring the armband in a brilliant picture from the match and honestly, it does look like a match made in heaven.
