The season’s first North London derby was quite an ill-tempered affair with its fair share of confrontations, at the end of which Arsenal managed to outgun Tottenham 4-2 in front of a buoyant crowd at the Emirates.
While the Gunners started the match with great intensity and got the lead early in the first half, they lost their way a bit as Spurs hit back with a couple of goals of their own.
However, Unai Emery’s men came out rejuvenated after the interval, playing with even greater zeal and purpose on both sides of the pitch to completely blow their opponents away.
As well as scoring thrice in the second half, their defenders also appeared prepared for a scrap in order to keep Harry Kane and co. in check.
Footage of Sokratis Papastathopoulos, who performed admirably at the heart of Arsenal’s defense throughout the 90 minutes, celebrating a successful tackle that stopped a Spurs player in his tracks is the perfect example of the kind of passion the team played with.
Check out the Greek centre-back’s warrior-like celebration:
Look at Sokratis …. Celebrating a tackle. We have not had this type of winning mentality for years. I love it pic.twitter.com/ANjsDmCk0d
